I love travel and learning about the local foods. In an effort to have more fun, I decided to try preparing something from a far off land. I chose Uzbekistan because I’ve never heard of Uzbek cuisine before, so it felt really exotic.
I didn’t want to overwhelm myself so I thought preparing a drink would be manageable for a Friday afternoon. I will share this very simple and refreshing recipe with you:
Olma va Olhu’ri Sharbati (aka Compote with apples & plums)
1 lb of apples – quartered and deseeded
1 lb of *plums – washed
Sugar or maple syrup
Boil 1.5 liters of water. When the water starts to boil, add apples and plums.
Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Add sugar to taste.
Place in refrigerator and serve chilled.
*If you can’t find plums, you can also use apricots, peaches and nectarines
Yoqimli Ishtahha!! = Bon Apetit!
